49mm wide, 45mm crystal, 18mm deep. A Victorian sterling silver open faced pocket watch by Dent of London. Renowned watchmaker and watchmaker to the queen (Victoria). In very good condition, dates to 1897. The case is hallmarked sterling silver with a London assay and date marked for 1897, has the makers mark of JW. Engine turned pattern to rear with blank circle to center, no major scratches or dings. This is a pin set crown wind piece (wind with crown and set the time by depressing the pin). The dial is in good condition, it has 1 very short, minor hairline crack that runs from the sub seconds dial to the outer edge at the V (5 O'clock) position, signed "Dent (within triangle logo) London". Blued steel hands, Roman Numerals Good thick mineral glass in fine condition. The movement is signed "DENT LONDON" "Watchmakers to the Queen" "61 Strand & 4 Royal Exchange" and the serial number. It has had an extensive service and is in fine condition. It runs well and keeps good time. A very nice English timepiece by a famous maker, Dent. Dent famously (along with Denison) provided the clockworks for the Westminster clock in the bell tower known as Big Ben. 120 year old English timepiece in every day usable working order.
