A scarce S Smith & Son Chronograph pocket watch in a sterling silver case.
S. Smith & Son are a well known and respected London jeweller, watch and clock maker. A particulary well know brand in the world of WWII aviation as they supplied many of the clocks found in WWII RAF fighters and bombers.
Dated to 1909 with London import hallmark.
5cm across the case, a size 16.
The case by G.S. (George Smith) is Swiss 925 silver. In very good condition, some very slight marks commensurate with age, no major scratches, no real signs of wear, no bad dings or dents. Rear covers open to 90 degrees. All hinges are good.
Mineral glass crystals in perfect condition.
The dial is bright and clean, no cracks or chips. Black Roman Numerals, blued steel hands.
The Swiss Fully functioning chronograph, start stop and fly back functions all work well. Chronograph function is operated by pressing the crown inward, this starts the centre seconds hand in motion, pressing again stops it, another press resets the hand back to 12 O'clock. Fully functioning and nice operation. It has a 60 minute dial at the top and a sub seconds dial at the bottom.
Crown wind and in set, the pin being at the 1 O'clock position at outer edge of case.
Another top piece, good investment, great for wedding, graduation, retirement, Christmas, Fathers day or birthday present. Popular choice as a gift to the groom from the bride.
Supplied in a strong metal framed pocket watch case, recessed to accomodate a chain. Leather look padded outer and cushioned velvet foamed inner and a satin lined lid.
Serviced.
Servicing is defined as the piece being disassembled, cleaned, inspected and adjusted if necessary. It is then re-assembled and correctly oiled, timed for accuracy and adjusted if required. The mainspring will be replaced and the piece will be bench-tested for at least one day.
Statement.
I restore all of my watches to a fully working condition. It is my aim to provide a watch that is not only running but working to a usable state. My watches can be worn and used for their intended purpose on a daily basis. The time keeping should certainly be within +- 5 minutes per 24 hours but I aim for +-3 or better. I do offer guarantees, the details of which can be found on my website for Time Pocket Watches. I have many years experience and a vast catalogue of Waltham spares and parts.
Photography.
My highly detailed photographs show the watch in detail, this level of detail is not normally seen by the naked eye. The watch will look even better in real life.
